What the Bible Says About Gay Marriage

Gay marriage

The topic of gay marriage has become a highly debated issue in today's society, sparking intense discussions within the Christian community and beyond. While some argue that individuals should have the freedom to choose their own lifestyle, many Bible-believing Christians strongly disagree, citing the principles of Scripture as their guide.

God's Design for Marriage
The Bible clearly teaches that God is the Author and Founder of the marriage institution (Genesis 2:24). From the beginning, God's design for marriage has been between one man and one woman. In Genesis 1:27, we read, "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." This fundamental principle is reinforced in Genesis 2:24, which states, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh."

The Bible's Stance on Homosexuality
The Bible explicitly condemns homosexual behaviour in several passages, including Leviticus 18:22, which says, "Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable." Similarly, Romans 1:26,27 states, "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way, the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another."

A Call to Holiness
As followers of Christ, we are called to live a life of holiness, separate from the sinful practices of the world (1 Peter 1:13-16). The Bible warns us that those who engage in homosexual behaviour, among other sinful practices, will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9,10). However, the same passage also offers hope and redemption through Jesus Christ, saying, "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."

Conclusion
In conclusion, the Bible clearly teaches that gay marriage is not in line with God's design for marriage and human relationships. As Christians, we are called to stand firm on the principles of Scripture, while also extending love, compassion, and the hope of redemption to all people. May we strive to be a voice of truth and grace in a world that desperately needs it.
